Robin is a very good friend and wanted to have me come and do a birth essay for them.  She had to have a scheduled c-section, but we knew there would be plenty to photograph for her to forever remember. Often when people hear birth photography, they think of the actual moment of birth… and  really.. who wants pictures of that!?!   But for me and the mothers who choose to have me photograph for them,  its about the hours before, the moments after,  everything going on around.  Its not really about one single image,  its the collection of images together that really tell the story.  And Monday it was no different.  We arrived at the hospital at 5:00am , and I left around 2:30pm.  I took about 500 images during that time (thank goodness for digital cameras!) and will narrow it down to around 200-300 for her slideshow.  I briefly worked on a few today so that she can have some right away to share with family and friends on the internet.   This baby was born at GBMC right in the heart of Baltimore MD.  It was a glorious hospital,  so very beautiful in every detail.  They allowed me to come into the operating room with mom & dad which is a rare experience.  I was honored to be able to document such a treasured time.   Everything is a blur to them at this point from all the excitement, stress and exhaustion .. So I am excited to share these pictures with them!    Here she is, Miss Alexandra .. 8lbs 7 oz.

This little baby turned two weeks old when I came to take her pictures.  She was 18 years in the making!! What a special little girl.  She was a ham!!  I have never had a newborn that stayed awake through almost the whole session + never fussed!!  She was so alert, content , and  peaceful.  Momma was able to put her to sleep a few times but shortly after mom would lay her back down for me she would open her big blue eyes!  I think my favorite picture from this session is the one where mom is cradling baby in her arms.  No words are needed, you can see the love, the relief that her daughter is finally here.

Mom had bought this adorable little hat and diaper cover set.

This beautiful mother to be is due in May… and she looks fantastic! Their house had beautiful soft light that came though the windows so I was able to use natural light for the majority of the images.  It will be perfect for when the baby is here… to have that  filtered light flowing across the baby for the newborn session. I can’t wait to meet their little one in a few months.  This is their first baby, and they waited a long time for her to come.  She is going to be a treasured little girl, thats for sure!
