Newborn Sessions

I must admit, these little guys are my favorite to photograph and quickly turned into my passion. I can’t get enough of them! Here are a few details about the newborn sessions. Remember the earlier the better to capture that fresh newborn look.

To schedule your newborn session it is best to call during your pregnancy so I can pencil in your due date.  Please contact me as soon as possible after your baby’s birth so we can set up a session date. Last minute decision? Baby already here? I always try to work newborns in so give me a call as soon as you can.

I am always honored to document this very fleeting time of a new child’s life. The unique newborn look is best captured when they are “brand spankin new”!  Or…in the first 14 days after birth.   During this time their bodies are still curled from the womb, they are very sleepy, and their skin is clear. Newborn sessions can run anywhere from 2-4 hours. As a mother of three, I know the baby runs the show, and we will follow his/her lead. I only schedule one session per day so there is no rush at all. There is plenty of time for breaks, nursing, diaper changes, ect.

Wondering what to dress your little one in? Newborns look best with nothing at all! Other choices of clothing can include cute hats, ruffled diaper covers for girls, and booties. I have a growing collection of hats, diaper covers and blankets.  I always bring everything with me so even if you don’t have anything there will be plenty to choose from.

I am a minimalist when it comes to photographing newborns, so I use very little props. I like to keep the focus on your baby. But there are times when one has a special blanket, or item that they want included. Please be sure to have it handy. Many parents like to include special occupational or recreational gear (for example: helmets, hats, boots, gloves… Fire, Police, Military, Racing, Construction, Baseball are a few).

What should you wear? If parents would like to be in the session it is nice if you can have a long sleeve black shirt and a white tank top close by.

A warm baby is a happy baby! And a happy baby stays calm!  We will need to keep baby warm, and since baby will be undressed the area that we will be working in can’t be cold.  I bring a small space heater, but please don’t have the air conditioning on & keeping the room chilly.

Please don’t be hesitant to call or email if you have any questions.
